ABOUT THE GALLERY In October of 2008, George Lawson opened a San Francisco exhibition space in the former 2nd floor Catherine Clark Gallery at 49 Geary, and named it room for painting room for paper. As the endeavor developed and gained focus, it was renamed George Lawson Gallery. The gallery moved in June of 2011 to Los Angeles, renovating a storefront at 8564 Washington Boulevard in LA's Culver City gallery district. In November of 2012, Lawson signed a lease on a second space in San Francisco's developing TenderNob neighborhood at 780 Sutter Street.
The gallery's program emphasizes contemporary painting, with a staggered monthly rotating schedule in the two cities, showcasing an international roster of emerging and mid-career artists who paint, or work in disciplines with strong conceptual links to painting. The gallery has exhibited artists from Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, the UK, as well as New York, Boston, Santa Fe, the Pacific Northwest, and California. Lawson writes and lectures on the fundamental nature and contemporary relevancy of painting and the gallery produces limited edition books for many of its exhibitions, available on request or downloadable as PDFs off the web site. George Lawson directs the program. Nina Viakhireva manages gallery operations in San Francisco and Esther Ribot manages the gallery in Los Angeles. Teresa Goodman manages the web site and online communications. We are currently not accepting submissions for review.
