CLEM CROSBY AT VENICE BIENNALE

We are pleased to announce that Clem Crosby, who lives and works in London, has been selected to exhibit seven large paintings at this year's Venice Architectural Biennale. The paintings, done in a specially formulated, cellulose-based paint on precast cement board panels, are part of an installation created by London-based architects Haworth Tompkins Ltd, who have also recently collaborated with Dan Graham and Martin Creed. Crosby's works for this exhibition are borrowed from the suite of 180 monochrome paintings permanently commissioned by Haworth Tompkins and the Young Vic Theater in 2004-2006 to complete the exterior of the theater in Waterloo, London. Crosby’s and the architect’s idea for a huge-scale artwork forming the external skin of the building consists of a contiguous group of deep yellow and black paintings that clad the façade, visible and glowing through a mesh grid. The building was short-listed for the Stirling Prize 2007. The Venice installation will run from August 29 through November 25, 2012 in the Corderie, which is part of the Arsenale.
